What makes this dynamic, young, and sensitive young institute stand apart from the rest is its genealogy. Avalon is not born out of industrial, political, or missionary backing but from the heart and mind of an ordinary mother. Avalon stands solely and singularly on its merit as a school nurtured and built on empathy, creativity, and values.
We took a conscious call to not turn ourselves into a chain of schools as our little flings in that direction through the growing years made us realize the compromises we make along the way. Although size brings benefits, that very ambition also drives us to spend more time in commercials than children. We, therefore, chose to be a single, stand-alone school to retain the sanctity, soulfulness, sincerity, and depth of the work we intend to do as educators.
The three characteristics that define this vicenarian are:
Intimate
The deliberate decision to keep class sizes small and school size snug helps Avalon be a close-knit community where everyone is known not just by their names or as students but as individuals. Teachers and students enjoy a unique and special camaraderie and emotional bond.
A lot of importance is given to understanding each child, and we dedicate abundant time towards this end. A similar bonding extends to parents who are an active voice and contribute to the richness of children’s learning experiences by lending their expertise and skill sets.
We ensure that we know and understand parents too, as they are an integral part of the child’s universe. Coffee mornings, parent workshops, and events are planned to bring the teachers and parents closer.
Innovative
As leaders in education, our job is to constantly innovate and adapt to the changes unfolding around us. To ensure that children are equipped to make sense and meaning of the rapidly changing world and master skills and attitudes to navigate this VUCA world.
It is dispiriting to restrict children to our limits and not be responsive to the changing world around us. Stagnant, convenience-driven education is the biggest disservice to humanity.
Avalon has been a trendsetter, unorthodox, and a pioneer right from its inception when it challenged the preschool education’s preparatory school model and turned it into a play-way enrichment model.
Whether it was being the frontrunner with the introduction of the Cambridge curriculum way back in 2004 and producing India toppers in various streams, or Blending ICSE curriculum with international pedagogy, introducing innovations such as silent teaching or institutionalizing concept-based learner-centred lessons, Avalon has been ceaselessly innovating and evolving to ensure an intellectually invigorating exposure for its learners.
The latest among these is rewriting the entire curriculum as an integrated, interdisciplinary project-based curriculum. Ours is the first ICSE school to convert the entire ICSE curriculum to a holistic project-based learning model.
Integrative
Lastly, if we only educate the mind, we haven’t educated at all. What we end up creating is either a menace to society or self-harming, fragile, egotistic individuals. An individual is far more than his ability to make a livelihood.
The personality is made of the beliefs one carries, the habits one builds, the experiences one has, and the perceptions and attitudes one displays. We, at Avalon, have been very sentient that making children aware of their consciousness is instrumental to raising happy, positive, and ethical individuals.
We encourage them to appreciate that a force higher than the self, the mind, and logic must be the driver of their lives. Learning to tame and manage the mind is the key goal of real education. Daily mediation practices, spiritual assemblies, and reading for pleasure time (reading to children from mythological and biographical stories) add to this dimension.
But most importantly, a school culture that hinges upon the value of Love and ensures that morals are kept before marks or materialism greatly contributes to raising integrated, wholesome, balanced individuals who will go on to add to goodness in the world.
We welcome you to the Avalon community if you share similar values and ideologies on education and raising children! If you can make the daring choice to step away from the rat race and dare to not compare, we have the perfect ecology for your child. If you believe in allowing children to carve out their own path, we are here to help chart it.
If you view life not from a competitive lens but a collaborative one, place significance over success, and don’t fear change and unpredictability, but allow your children to develop resilience and responsibility, we are your navigator and compass. If you care about their spiritual and moral well-being as much or a little more than their academic excellence, then we are the right fit for you!
